Innovation in Medical Science

SCIENCE

In today's modern age importance of technology is felt in almost every aspect of life . Medical technology is felt in almost every aspect of life . Medical technolgy is an enormous field which has the opportunity to deal with a simple day-to-day problem such as bandage to a complex and advanced technique such as implanting artificial organs. Though the field is highly challenging but there have been some remarkable devlopment from time to time.

Let us take a look at the innovative medical technologies that have touched our lives.

           Fact

Two scientist invented the CT scan in 1972, though they were working on the invention separately and independently.

MRI

MRI or magnetic resonance Imaging is a system used to take image of the organ and structure inside the body. MRI ses magnetic field along with pulses of radio waves. The imaging process is completely painless and safe.

FACT FILE

  • It takes a closer looks of the internal body .
  • It has a huge round  magnet with a hollow tube in its centre.
  • It can be seen in radiology clinic and hospitals.
  • The first MRI of the human body  was done on 3rd july 1977.
  • currently, it is estimated to be used to scan about 10 million humans.

CT Scan

Computed Tomography commonly termed as CT scan is a medical procedure which which uses X-rays to scan an area inside the human bodies and provide detailed images.

FACT FILE

  • It is known as computerised Axial Tomography (CAT) or computerised tomography.
  • The word "Tomography" originates from the greek word "Tomos" meaning 'cut'.
  • It can produce a three- dimensional view of the body and can also show image individually.
  • It is used for detecting and hence curing diseases.
  • To highlight infected areas it uses special radioactive dyes and radiation.
  • It focusses on thin body slices and produces its detailed image
