Know your organ system
The organ system is our bodies operate like a machine , running continuously day and night to ensure the human body is operating well. This chapter discuss the function of the different organ system in our bodies.
The skeletal system
The basic frame of our bodies the sustains and facilitates movement, generates red blood cell and store minerals is called the skeletal system. It comprise of cartilage, bones, tendons and ligaments.
The flexible tissue which bonds bone and muscles together are called tendons.
The connective tissue which holds a join together or acts as a connector between two bones or cartilage are called ligaments.
A tough tissue that transforms into a bone over a certain period of time is called cartilage.
FACTS
They grey matter of the brain contains neurons, which receive and sends out signals. The signal exchange is carried out by white matter acting as a connector between neurons . They grey matter occupies 40% and white matter occupies 60% of the brain.
The Nervous System
The nervous system consist of nerves, spinal cord and brain . The brain is housed within the skull, and different body function are controlled by the brain . The brain is responsible for simulating sensations, movement and thoughts. The three main parts of the brain are:
- cerebrum
- cerebellum
- brain stem.
- cerebrum: It fills up most of the skull and is separated into aright hemisphere and a left hemisphere. The cerebrum helps in problem-solving, sensing and feeling.
- cerebellum: It fills the back of the skulls and helps in coordination and balance.
- Brain stem: It attaches the brain to the spinal cord. It controls digestion, breathing, blood pressure, swallowing and heartbeats.
